Rim Rock Camping & Montezuma Castle

ARIZONA. APRIL.

Camping in the Rim Rock area has always been enjoyable with its beautiful scenery and ample hiking opportunities. I have lost count of how many times I’ve stayed here, so I was surprised to stumble on a better camping spot than on previous occasions – better signal and away from the road plus ample room for all our rigs.

We enjoyed a full moon while here and, while visiting a nearby creek, Sadie (accidentally) enjoyed her first dog paddling adventure.

We also visited the nearby National Park site, Montezuma Castle National Monument, which I recommend. It’s a five-story “Southern Sinagua people” cliff dwelling on a limestone cliff.

Flagstaff & Sedona Areas, Arizona

Of the four corners, Arizona was my choice for my next stops.

A couple friends camphost in the Flagstaff area so I spent some time there. Flagstaff is at 7,000 feet so this is a good area for cooler temperatures during the summer months. Also, there is quite a bit of public land available for camping all around Flagstaff and, that city is large enough that it includes any kind of needed amenity.

After my time here, I went south to a pretty area not far from Sedona at which I’ve camped in the past. Oddly, I have still not actually visited Sedona but will get there at some point.

ARIZONA. OCTOBER-NOVEMBER.

Travel through (and Celestial Events from) Four States

CALIFORNIA/ARIZONA/NEVADA/UTAH. DECEMBER-APRIL.

After my stay in Tucson, I headed back to the Yuma area and then up to Quartzsite to volunteer for a charity I support, Homes on Wheels Alliance. After that, another stay in Southern California to rest up from the busy volunteer days. Friends invited me to stay at their Nevada home for a while and then it was off to Apple Valley, Utah, to camp with a friend’s group.

My photos from these stays ended up being mostly of weather and celestial events–at least until I got to Utah. It was a pretty part of the state that I had not visited before. After that, I decided to head to Texas for an event I’d been wanting to attend for some years.
